From the CEO

Great challenges and opportunities in water management await the IWC and its partners in the Asia-Pacific region, as we prepare to get down to the business of the Knowledge Hub for Healthy Rivers and Aquatic Ecosystems. At our recent launch of this Knowledge Hub, with representatives from many of our 16 Hub partners, the level of excitement at the benefits this collaborative initiative can bring was very high.

The challenges of water management anywhere in the world are huge in this era of climate change and environmental uncertainty. How can different organisations and different fields of water management work together to achieve holistic and sustainable results? How do we take knowledge from one location or situation and apply it effectively in a new situation, allowing for specific local needs and experience?

But likewise, the opportunities in water management, particularly in this Asia-Pacific region in which we in Australia live, are also enormous. Exciting achievements can be made in human health, food production and sustainability. Partnerships between governments, corporations and society can be forged through the collaboration of the APWF Knowledge Hubs. And there are many opportunities for sharing, learning from and further developing the great body of knowledge and experience that already exists in Australia and the Asia-Pacific countries.

Mark Pascoe

IWC CEO

“And we see that IWC in Brisbane is already serving as the Asia-Pacific’s portal to water resources expertise in Australia,” he said.
