Great challenges and opportunities in water management await the IWC and its partners in the Asia-Pacific region, as we prepare to get down to the business of the Knowledge Hub for Healthy Rivers and Aquatic Ecosystems. At our recent launch of this Knowledge Hub, with representatives from many of our 16 Hub partners, the level of excitement at the benefits this collaborative initiative can bring was very high.

Brisbane - Asia-Pacific's water portal to Australia
"Healthy rivers and aquatic ecosystems are at the very heart of sustainability of our societies and economies,” says Wouter Lincklaen Arriens of the Asian Development Bank (ADB), speaking at the launch of the International WaterCentre’s (IWC) Knowledge Hub for Healthy Rivers and Aquatic Ecosystems. “And we see that IWC in Brisbane is already serving as the Asia-Pacific’s portal to water resources expertise in Australia,” he said.

ACEDP River Health & Environmental Flow in China project launched
The largest project under the Australia China Environment Development Program (ACEDP) – River Health and Environmental Flow in China (E-flow Project) - was launched on 3 September in Beijing. IWC Master of IWM single module optionIn 2010, for the first time, IWC part-time/distance students will have the option of undertaking a single course module per semester rather than the standard two. 2010 Riverprize nominations now open
2010 Riverprize nominations are now open. Riverprize is awarded and funded by International Riverfoundation for best practice in river management. Ozwater'10IWC CEO Mark Pascoe is Chair of the committee for Ozwater10, Australia's National Water Conference and exhibition, presented by the Australian Water Association (AWA). The conference runs from 8 - 10 March 2010 in Brisbane. 2009 Australian Leadership Award Fellowships
In 2009 the IWC hosted three cohorts of water professionals through the AusAID Australian Leadership Awards Fellowship program. The groups came from Indonesia, the Philippines and China to undertake intensive professional development programs in integrated water resource management (IWRM).
The human face of water management
In Uganda the urban poor pay three times as much for water as do the rich, says Robert Apunyo, Ugandan winner of an International WaterCentre (IWC) Water Leader Scholarship. Since he was a boy, Robert has been passionate about environment and water.
Ken Thiess Scholarship award
IWC and the International Riverfoundation are proud to present the new Ken Thiess Scholarship for the IWC Master of Integrated Water Management to Olita Ogonjo for his outstanding commitment and dedication in improving the waterways in his home country of Kenya.
Partner news: MPhil with specialisation in IWM at Monash South Africa
The International WaterCentre Africa Node is set to launch the Master of Philosophy with specialisation in Integrated Water Management at Monash South Africa in February 2010. This will be the first postgraduate program offered at the Monash South Africa Campus.
