ACHSE responds to Federal Government's health reform announcement

Dear Linda,

As you would be aware, Prime Minister Kevin Rudd made a major announcement this week regarding health in Australia, releasing the document, A National Health & Hospitals Network for Australia.

According to the statement, the National Health and Hospitals Network will deliver better hospitals by establishing a national hospital network, funded nationally and run locally.
It is the most significant reform to our nation’s health system since the introduction of Medicare.

The National Health and Hospitals Network will:

  • Create a single national network of hospitals, instead of eight separate systems.
  • Be funded nationally, with the Australian Government shouldering the majority of the funding burden, which will mean more money is available to meet rising health costs.
  • Make sure local doctors and nurses with local expertise are making the important decisions for our local hospitals.

ACHSE Media Release

In my capacity as Federal President, the College issued its own Media Release yesterday highlighting the need for the Government to commit to investment in leadership development for health managers in order for this health reform blueprint to be effective.
